Their repertoire of covers is really eclectic, and I enjoyed <i>Yolanda</i> because it very much captures that "old" groove -- very authentic. I have been listening to Dennis Wilson's <i>Pacific Ocean Blue</i> lately (most recently in the car on the way up to NH) and he also loves the horns. People do not necessarily, I think, associate the Beach Boys with soul, but you do hear it more in the album cuts than in the pop singles they released. Also, the albums they released on Brother Records had a much more "soul" feel to them, I think because at that time Brian was taking a step back (into bed, ahem) and Carl, especially, was stepping forward into the "musical director" shoes. The lyric is actually "I love the way you soften my life with your love, your precious love", kind of an oddball word choice. But as I look at the printed lyrics on Mac's screen tonight (haha) I see that there is an internal rhyme with the "often" in "I dream about you often my pretty darlin'".
