Seger, excellent recap and great video capture. I'm glad you had such a great experience. It is rare that the venue allows fans to move around for a better vantage point. Thanks for introducing me to this amazing man. I am a big fan of his and can't wait to see him live.

Welcome Maddie!I loved your review of the Riverfront Festival. Thanks for all the links too!
Especially liked this "After a sing-a-long to a new song, Matt Nathanson left the stage into a tornado of teenage girls already lined up for autographs." That describes the autograph frenzy so well! When I taught in the Boston area I had a
Matthew Nathanson as a student in my daycare. The guy in the pic looks like that young kid-could it
possibly be one and the same?

Excellent review-you captured my feelings towards Early Works exactly! “Nostalgic” and “endearing” are the words Hicks uses to describe the compilation, but I’d like to add original, warm, creative, versatile, and passionate. Yes indeed!

Maddie, welcome to OFTV and the NESP family!!!

Great review. I love Matt Nathanson, and would have loved to see him live. I'm sure I'll get a chance soon. "Get Higher" is one of my favorite songs right now. The lyrics are just perfect!

Wow, sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to see the Tupelo. In the meantime, I see quite a few Mystix shows that we could go to together this fall (after I move). Their repertoire of covers is really eclectic, and I enjoyed Yolanda because it very much captures that "old" groove -- very authentic.

I wish you could find more information on the blind axe murderer (!) and give us a post about that. :)

That was fine review and pics to go with it.
I'll have to move Mayer higher on my "concert wish list". He's been through a few times, but I have the feeling he's just getting better.

I do love the horns. I have been listening to Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue lately (most recently in the car on the way up to NH) and he also loves the horns. People do not necessarily, I think, associate the Beach Boys with soul, but you do hear it more in the album cuts than in the pop singles they released. Also, the albums they released on Brother Records had a much more "soul" feel to them, I think because at that time Brian was taking a step back (into bed, ahem) and Carl, especially, was stepping forward into the "musical director" shoes.

The lyric is actually "I love the way you soften my life with your love, your precious love", kind of an oddball word choice. But as I look at the printed lyrics on Mac's screen tonight (haha) I see that there is an internal rhyme with the "often" in "I dream about you often my pretty darlin'". Another layer of wonderfulness!

Regarding the percussion... when I get home I may have to check the re-issue liner notes. There was a point where Dennis had put his fist through a glass door and was attempting to drum onstage with a bandage-wrapped hand. Not sure if it was that tour but it would certainly make sense! Things are always tighter with Brian in charge, though. I'll have a report on tomorrow night's show sometime this week! :)

Thanks Mac & mari for your support and nice comments!

Mari, Robbie McIntosh is the same guy that toured with Paul McCartney. I looked him up on Wikipedia when I got home because he was so amazing.

"McIntosh is well known as a session guitarist and member of The Pretenders from 1982 until 1987. In 1988 he began doing session guitar work for Paul McCartney joining his band full time until 1993. He continues to do session work and has performed both as a sideman and with his own band, The Robbie McIntosh Band."
